Bridging the Gap (BTG)

Bridging The Gap (BTG) is a nationally-recognized medical interpreting course which is provided by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program (CCHCP). The course is a 40-hour professional development program that prepares bilingual individuals to work as medical interpreters. Topics that will be covered in the training course include:

In this 40-hour course, participants will learn:

  •  Basic interpreting skills
  •  Ethics
  •  Basic medical vocabulary
  •  How and when to act as a cultural broker
  •   An overview of the U.S. Health Care System
  •  Communication skills and critical thinking
  •  How and when to act as an advocate
  •  Professional development

In order to enroll in the course:

* Participants will be required to pass language proficiency tests (reading and speaking) in both English and Target language which will be provided by CPLI
* Participants must complete a registration form.

A certificate of completion will be awarded to qualified graduates who successfully pass the final exam (given on the last day).
