Intensive and Rewarding
This intensive and rewarding 40-hour course covers the fundamentals of interpreting in the health care setting and prepares you for the challenges of this rewarding profession. The training course has been created and developed from the ground-up by medical interpreters who have drawn on both their extensive experience in the field, as well as in-depth research into the latest techniques and theoretical aspects of medical interpreting.
Topics that will be covered in the training course include: Medical Terminology, the Code of Ethics (which will be practiced through real-world ethical case-studies), the Standards of Practice, Medical Interpreting Protocols, the Incremental Intervention Model of the Roles of the Interpreter, the differences between Impartiality and Transparency in the medical encounter, State and Federal laws governing the rights of LEP (Limited English Proficiency) patients, the New York State Patients’ Bill of Rights, Memory Development exercises, Advanced Directives, Standard Precautions for Health Care Professionals, and much more…
Bridging the Gap covers:
- Basic interpreting skills — Roles, ethics, managing the flow of a session
